POAM III Validations
In this page we summarize POAM III Ver.3 validation. This validation includes comparisons of POAM III ozone, aerosol extinction, water vapor and NO2.
Full details of ozone validation are in Lumpe et al. 2002 and Prados et al. 2002, aerosol validations are in Randall et al. 2001, NO2 validations are in Randall et al. 2002 and water vapor validations are in Nedoluha et al. 2002. See the POAM publications list for full citations.
POAM III ozone data are validated with comparisons to:
POAM III ozone has a vertical range of 5-60 km with a resolution of 1 km. The random error is less than 5% and is validated to within 5% at altitudes greater than 12 km.
POAM III aerosol extinction data are validated with comparisons to SAGE II data.
POAM III aerosol extinction has a verical range of 5-30 km with a resolution of 1 km. The random error is 20-30% and is agrees to within 30% of SAGE II aerosol extinction.
POAM III NO2 measurement comparisons with HALOE, MkIV, DOAS and SAOZ.
POAM III NO2 measurements have a vertical range of 20-45 km, and a resolution of 1.5-3 km. The random error is 5% and is validated to within 5-10 %.
POAM III water vapor data are validated with comparisons to HALOE water vapor data.
POAM III water vapor have a vertical range of 5-50 km and a resolution of 1-3 km. The random error is 5% and has a 5% high bias.
